The Moorland Cottage, a relatively short novel by Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell, was first published in 1850.
A young girl called Maggie, loves her overbearing brother, despite his occasional bullying. But will she give up the man she loves at her brother's insistence?
The plot does have similarities with George Eliot's 'The Mill on the Floss' and the heroines share the same name, and both have a similar climactic scene. Eliot's novel dates from 1860, so Gaskell's book came first. Despite the plot similarities, the treatment of the theme is rather different. 149 pages.
The Cranford collection of beautifully-made, hard cover novels includes many of the world's most successful and popular authors. Each edition measures 24cm x 17cm.
PLEASE NOTE: This copy is new and sealed, but we have identified some minor, cosmetic issues, either with the cover or the page edges. The book itself is complete and highly readable.
